For the more than twenty five years of our existence, through the Council of New Jersey State College Locals, we have been affiliated with AFT Locals from the 9 state colleges and universities (excluding Rutgers University) in the State of New Jersey.
Our dues allow us to pursue contract negotiations, processing of grievances and arbitrations, lobbying the Legislature and Governor for improved budgets for higher education, collaboration with labor affiliates and student organizations, and drafting of proposed legislation for employees and higher education in general.
As a new employee, you are automatically represented by this Union and have the status as an “agency fee payer,” but you are not a member in our Union. This means that you will receive all the rights, protections and benefits of a Union, except the right to vote in our organization. The right to vote is reserved for Union members.
Union members pay their dues, which is 1% of their yearly salary bargained for by this Union. Agency fee payers pay 85% of the 1% of their salary. At $ 60,000.00, the difference per pay period to be a member is $ 1.98.
